Leslie Blackshear Smith personifies what it is to be a New Orleans musician. She cut her teeth working with the likes of iconic drummers Joseph “Zigaboo” Modeleste, James Black, Johnny Vidocovich, Herman Ernest, Herlin Riley and Willie Green- just to name a few.
Working with pianists Allen Toussaint, Ellis Marsalis, Art Neville, Willie T, Ivan Neville, Jon Cleary and David Torkanowsky helped to shape her as the artist she is today as well.
Born and raised in New Orleans, Ms Smith was able to soak up the rare musical brew that gives her original music a sound of its own. Soulful, funky, Bluesy, emotional expression- just like our food and the way we dance on the streets; Leslie Blackshear Smith delivers her music with freedom and joy.

From singing on the street to headlining at Lincoln Center, throwing down in Neighborhood bars, to performing at the Apollo Theatre, Leslie always delivers an unparalleled power and passion. She has performed at multiple New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festivals, and other major Festival events at home and abroad.
Smith was named a Louis Armstrong Airport Cultural Ambassador in 2002. Her image has been gracing the C concourse at the airport in New Orleans ever since. She received a proclamation from the New Orleans City Council in 2008 for her “gift of song, magnanimous presence and beautiful voice”. She was filmed and documented as an influential artist of New Orleans by the Jazz and Heritage Festival Foundation archives, has received certificates of appreciation from the Louisiana Music Commission and numerous accolades from her piers. As a young girl she was featured in the book “Up From The Cradle Of Jazz” in the chapter “a new generation comes of age.
Leslie has continued to bring it forward in everything she does; with her song writing and her voice, for her own projects and for many other artists including; George Porter Jr., Wardell Quezergue, Joseph Zigaoo Modelete, Luther Kent, Kirk Joseph, YaDonna West, Liz Mikel, Bas Clas and others.
